Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mayra L. Fuentes

Mayra L. Fuentes received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington with a focus in International Business and a minor in Spanish. Her master’s degree is in Education with an emphasis on Higher Education from Dallas Baptist University. She completed her doctoral degree from Texas A&M University -Commerce in Higher Education. She obtained her certification to teach in the state of Texas from the Education Career Alternative Programs. She served as a bilingual teacher and as a Spanish teacher. She is currently serving as an Associate Professor of Spanish at Tarrant County College. Dr. Fuentes’ research interests include the Latino student population, especially at the higher education level and culturally responsive pedagogy (teaching and leadership). Dr. Fuentes is an advocate for education and believes in the theory of service-learning to enhance the academic success of her students and of the community.
