Dr. Carly O’Neill-Barrett

Dr. Carly O’Neill-Barrett is a lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds, UK, where she teaches sociology of media & culture, and qualitative research methods. She acts as Teaching Assistant Lead for her school, supporting the development of future educators in higher education. She serves as the university’s Institutional Academic Lead for Authentic Assessment. Dr O’Neill-Barrett holds the status of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and received the 2025 University of Leeds Collaborative Excellence in Teaching Award for her role in supporting academic innovation in assessment practice. Her pedagogical work focuses on experiential learning, social justice, and inclusive assessment methods. She is a certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator, integrating this method into both teaching and research to enhance student learning and engagement. Internationally recognised for creative curriculum design, she prioritises effective, evidence-based approaches to assessment and pedagogy.
